School Lunch Nutrition

It has come to the attention of the American Public that our school lunch program is VERY unhealthy!  The schools use low quality, cheap, high caloric value and artificial (dye & flavor) foods.  If you have spent any amount of time in a school cafeteria, you would wonder just what the children are actually eating.   We send our children to school to learn, grow and become productive citizens and in the process teach them horrible eating habits.  If it is not fried, a bright color or sweet, the kids don't want it!  Teaching good eating habits needs to be done when children are young and impressionable.  The key to getting children to eating healthier foods, is to make it FUN!  There are many ways to achieve this.  

One fun way to eat something is to make it Bite Size. Cut up a sandwich in an unusual way or use a fun shaped cookie cutter.  Dips are a great way to get kids to eat their veggies.  Carrots dipped in hummus is just delicious.  Hard boiled eggs are a great source of protein and is a finger food.  A little salad topped with grilled chicken breast, cheese and black beans is sure to be a favorite.  Just add your favorite salad dressing. Another great way to healthier eating is by using a fun container or Bento Box.  Be creative and consistent and your kids will love the healthy foods you prepare for them.
